Basic Function

This position will report to the Maintenance Manager, be primarily self-directed and maintain all aspects of tooling support for equipment.  Areas include production, quality and maintenance within the facility.   Will require hands on involvement in various activities such as tooling measurement, inspection and setup. Off shift responsibility attending stock room in the distribution of materials/parts for production. Flexibility in availability will be necessary to support the needs of the daily operational requirements. Develop and maintain a high level of enthusiasm and attitude commensurate in servicing internal customers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document measurements on new and in process tooling. Maintain tolerances to avoid poor quality product.
  • Perform set-up of measuring devices, gauges, equipment and provide necessary planning for tooling measurement.
  • Support training of operators in tool cleaning technics and tool care.
  • Perform special assignments/projects and applying incrementally developed expertise.
  • Prepare and maintain reports according to tooling inventories, tooling measurements and pertaining procedures.
  • Develop and maintain response programs, (tooling damage corrective action).
  • Organize, schedule and complete routines for tooling preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor and optimize stock inventories of new and in process tooling.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on quality issues and specifications.
  • Research new products or alternative products for supporting the tool room and production.
  • Perform all duties as designated by supervisor/manager and/or by the job description.
  • Must be able to read and understand prints and drawings of a mechanical nature.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues while working with production and quality control.
  • Ability to manage small to medium tooling projects to enhance customer service.
  • Apply attention to detail through the process of cleaning and retooling various equipment
  • Work with engineering and purchasing to develop enhanced systems that strengthen deliverables coming out of the tool room.
  • Assist operators in setting up and/or mount tools on machines as required such as building rip saw arbors and other tools for production as required.
  • Conduct tooling audits to help ensure damaged tooling is removed from service.
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Issue parts, materials and tooling from the Storeroom and tool room, ensuring accurate sign-out and receipt information.
  • Perform accurate cycle counts as scheduled and provide information to Storeroom Coordinator.
  • Prepare and ship materials as required, to include ensuring adequate packaging and labeling information, and arranging appropriate transportation.
  • Receive, put away and data entry into 7I and other software supporting systems, materials delivered to the plant.
  • Deliver parts to correct person/dept. throughout plant.
  • Perform other duties as required

Position Requirements:

  • Must possess Associate Degree in machining/tooling or 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment working with cutting Tools.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office & AutoCAD
  • Perform job duties with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language, perform general mathematical computations to be successful.
  • Must be eligible to complete forklift training and earn forklift operator’s license to remain in position
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer relations and deliver a high level of customer satisfaction

Demonstrates a commitment to safety at all times.
