JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Supplier Development Manager is responsible for the creation of the team as well as creation and finalization of processes and procedures relating to all aspects of supplier development.  Close interaction with the Asia-Pacific teams is a necessity from both a travel and meeting time perspective.  This is a new role within our organization and will report into Purchasing. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interface with Asia-Pacific and U.S. teams to prioritize supplier development needs in determining best cost country sourcing by category, improve cost competitiveness or supply constraints
  • Research global external market information and entrepreneurial companies to identify potential sources and suppliers
  • Support supplier selection through robust qualification processes and cross functional team input
  • Assess new and existing supplier capabilities to meet product, cost, quality, capacity and fulfillment ensuring suppliers ability to meet requirements for performance, quality, cost and delivery of components and finished goods
  • Develop system and processes around supplier development utilizing lean methodologies, supplier scorecards and supplier audits and ensuring supplier compliance.
  • Develop positive relationships and work closely with sourcing & product leaders to manage, implement and track supplier/engineering, design changes, capacity studies and New Product Developments, and transfers
  • Development & Implementation of standard key metrics for supplier quality plan engagement/effectiveness, and corrective & preventative action closure
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to sourcing and development of suppliers with respect to technology, performance, quality, cost, logistics and delivery
  •  Provide leadership during investigations of major problems and or special projects focusing on developing working relationships with suppliers and the supply chain with regard to quality concerns, product development and procurement of parts
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems & aid in the supplier’s taking ownership of their own root cause analysis and resolution
  •  Independently determine approach and assigned tasks
  • Engages interest and participation of others and has a collaborative approach to working together

PROFILE:

  • Bachelor Science in Supply Chain Management or Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in Supplier Quality, Supplier Development or similar experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ managerial experience
  • Experience working with Asia-Pacific and/or outside North American teams
  • Strong negotiation and influential skills
  • Travel up to 25% (International and Domestic)

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in Sourcing, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and program management 
  • Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring vendor qualification
  • Knowledge of quality and business systems
  • Commercial and financial acumen
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Proactively contributes to the team
  •  Is self-aware and able to work on own initiative
  • Ability to create process and procedures and make recommendations based on known best practices
  • Shows moral courage, openness and honesty in all dealings
