Senior Project Manager: Pro Strategic Initiatives Description

The Senior Project Manager – Pro Strategic Initiatives is a key member of the Pro Channel team and reports to the Senior Vice President, Pro Strategy Deployment and Analytics. The Senior Project Manager works with the SVP and broader Pro leadership team to transform Pro strategies into actions.  Specifically, the Sr. Project manager will coordinate and lead efforts to frame, develop, implement, measure, and monitor Pro strategic initiatives for both pilot and full-deployments.  The Sr. Project Manager will also apply continuous improvement principles to pilots to help optimize processes and maximize impact prior full deployments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Senior NPD Project Manager:

  • Project management responsibilities include leading and delivering all projects on time and within scope by leading and managing cross-functional teams throughout a project management process. 
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties for the flawless execution of projects.  Lead project teams through the creation of the project scope and objective process, including the formulation of a clear and measurable success definition.
  • Build business partnerships with key stakeholders both across Pro and within the individual strategic initiative, through demonstrating an ability to build partnership rapport, demonstrating good listening skills, and becoming a trusted advisor through application of a fact-based approach to decision making
  • Develop and execute detailed project plans to track progress. Report and escalate to management as needed.
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks.
  • Provide timely and thoughtful communications to key stakeholders, project team members, and executive leadership on project objectives, scope, status, and impact.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of Pro strategic initiatives and across the Pro channel

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior experience in architectural coatings a strong plus
  • Solid organizational skills including project organization, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills. 
  • Experience with leading complex projects, including managing multiple projects simultaneously and identifying/addressing complex interdependencies.
  • Ability to understand and internalize the business impact and implication for stakeholders, including impacts and adoption realities for front-line associates
  • Practitioner-level understanding and pragmatic experience applying continuous improvement principles and toolkits (e.g., Kaizens, lean processes) to identify and address opportunities for improvement
  • Demonstrated Nose for Value in identifying the critical behaviors and milestones that will create the most value within the strategic initiative. Ability to create and track actionable SMART metrics related to the critical project success factors.
  • Possess the ability to inspire, enable, challenge, and encourage cross-functional team members.
  • Ability to facilitate and lead cross-functional meetings for planning, alignment, and execution tracking/accountability
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of software products. 
    • Ability to create a work breakdown structure, create a detailed project plan utilizing MS Project, and understand how to identify the critical path.
    • Proficient with MS Excel. Ability to conduct project-related analytics to get critical insights and incorporate data into presentations and dashboards.
    • Proficient with MS Word and MS Powerpoint. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to draft written project plan and create compelling presentations that resonate across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.  Must possess strong verbal communication skills and must feel comfortable presenting to and facilitating conversations with the executive leadership team.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively delegate to project team members
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills.  Consistent ability to apply fact-based decision making.
  • Bias towards urgency

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college
  • MBA or Master’s Degree in relevant field strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project management in all phases of a project including initiating, planning, execution, controlling, and closing. 
  • PMP or other Project Management certification a plus
