Job Description

The Health and Safety Supervisor will develop, implement, and administer policies and programs to establish and promote maintenance of safety, environmental compliance and healthy working conditions within the company. Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.

I.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, train, and maintain company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all safety and environmental laws.
  • Manage Health and Safety requirements including OSHA reporting and compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee and administer all Worker Compensation claims.
  • Manage and develop health and safety programs and ensure all program requirements are met and employees are trained in areas such as Injury and Illness Prevention (IIPP), Job Hazard reporting, machine guarding, ergonomics, safety committees and inspections, emergency preparation, and contractor safety. 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety recognition and awards programs.
  • Promote company-wide safety and health awareness through internal memoranda, bulletins, postings and notices.
  • Maintain employee safety and training records.
  • Maintain and update Emergency Plans and procedures for all facilities as required.
  • Prepare and submit government mandated reports including industrial surveys and reports.
  • Conduct and manage health/safety audits.
  • Serve as liaison with Masco Environmental, Health & Safety Department.
  • Guide and assist management in conducting work investigations on injuries and near-misses, and ensure all contributing factors are thoroughly examined for the root cause and appropriate changes are implemented.
  • Audit facility practices and records periodically to ensure compliance with company programs and state/federal occupational safety/health regulations.
  • Work in collaboration with HR team associates in the administration of HR policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and handle hazardous and medical waste.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, implement, and conduct safety training programs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and complete work as scheduled.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of safety files and records.

II.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May designated and delegate work to safety champions and non exempt safety committee.

III.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting with emphasis on safety administration.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety policies, practices, procedures, laws and regulations to include OSHA, and all local, state and federal laws.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and distribution practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and training methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, and private and public representatives.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to work with others and listen and convey information effectively
  • Proficient with all Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to use a computer terminal to access, enter, review, and update computerized records and reports.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret safety laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).

IV.PHYSICAL DEMAND

  • Regularly required to sit or stand, and walk and move about the facilities.
  • Required to be able to read documents and computer screens.
  • Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, or Hearing Protection when in the production environment.
  • Use of telephone, computer and face-to-face interaction to communicate

V.WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Working in an office environment – office and cubicle layout – with artificial lighting and air conditioned environment
  • Use of office equipment (computers, fax, copiers, stamp machine, telephone, filing cabinets, etc.)
  • Occasional exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.
  • Working full-time with a flexible schedule to perform work duties for three different shifts.
