SUMMARY OF POSITION:

As an active (customer location) team member, performs in-process and final inspection of Tempered and annealed lites and insulated glass units in accordance with established inspection checklists.  Collects, prepares and analyzes data for corrective action and process improvement. Reports problems and issues to Dixon and (customer location) production and quality management. Reviews rejects and defect trends with production supervisors. Performs process audits of equipment setup and conditions to ensure process controls are observed. Evaluates and offers suggestions for improvement to quality, handling, productivity and manufacturing processes.  Is the liason between Dixon Tempering and Dixon’s window branches.  Supports host location including but not limited to; occasionally fills in if a line EE is out sick or on vacation.  Postions are limited to staging the tempered lites or loading the wash to insure proper handling and care of lites.  Educates and trains line staff on tempered glass handling, quality expectations and proper coding of rejects.  Repairs tempered and annealed lites and units when possible to reduce GAP, backorders and increase internal customer care.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supports and aids in handling tempered lites (40%)

  • Trains and educates entire staff on glass handling and quality expectations of tempered lites with particular emphysis on staging tempered lites to insure proper handling.  Handling training to include but not limited to annealed lites and I.G.s.
  • Assist production in identifying root cause of defect trends. Recommend corrective/containment action as appropriate. 
  • Disceminate reject information to Dixon so proactive reponses can be performed.
  • Insures rejects are coded correctly for both Dixon and host location.
  • Perform process audits of equipment setup and conditions to ensure process controls are observed.
  • Create and execute MPS objectives; meet MPS commitments and work within the guidelines of MPS.  MPS commitments will include both Simi Valley and Dixon metrics.
  • Reflect Milgard business values and the Milgard Philosophy in all business interactions.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures related to all facets of job.
  • Proper usage of personal protective equipment.

Problem-Solving (40%)

  • Make recommendation of problem containment and/or corrective action to production leads and supervisors both in (customer location) and Dixon.
  • Participates in continuous improvement and Kaizen events and acts as the “subject matter expert” for tempered glass.
  • Collect, prepare and analyze data for corrective action and process improvement in Dixon and (customer location).
  • Reports problems and issues to supervisor and production management at both locations.

Product Audits (10%)

  • Perform in-process inspection of the handling of tempered and annealed lites and insulated glass units in the I.G. department and inspection of the handling of insulated glass units inside windows, and doors at vinyl, aluminum and woodclad lines to insure proper handling of units throughout (internal to customer location).  Educate those staff members on glass and I.G. expectations to include repairing I.G.s to reduce GAP and backorders of finished goods.

Nonconforming Material Disposition (5%)

  • Identify and segregate nonconforming tempered glass for disposition.

Quality Reports (5%)

  • Reviews rejects and defect trends with production supervisors and Dixon staff.
