Production Manager-Electron Beam

JOB SCOPE/ SUMMARY:

Mercury Plastics LLC, a Masco business unit, is located in Middlefield, Ohio. We have been in business since 1965 providing custom thermoplastic products to the appliance, automotive, construction, liquid dispensing, marine, medical, off-shore oil exploration and plumbing markets.

The Production Manager of the Electron Beam overseas all aspects of the Electron Beam facility; which sits adjacent to the Mercury Plastics main plant and is an integral operation to the overall Value Stream.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead and report regularly and directly to the business on safety, production, quality, engineering, and employment related issues using defined and developed Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to monitor results.
  • Develop and deploy strategic manufacturing plans that includes manufacturing site capacity, technology, process capability/controls, and talent development that is aligned with operations objectives, quality objectives, product requirements, and business strategies.
  • Ensure proactive engagement and representation of Manufacturing during product development cycles to ensure future products meet quality, service, and cost objectives.
  • Work in close collaboration and partnership with Finance, Quality, Sales, Engineering, and Production departments to optimize overall operational excellence.
  • Provide solutions to root cause analysis investigations identified by quality, to non-conformances that are the direct result of manufacturing operations.
  • Hire, train, develop, promote, and move employees through the organization in coordination with the company’s overall strategic plan.
  • Manage a staff of production technicians, engineers, and material handlers.
  • Apply lean manufacturing methods to establish shop procedures for scheduling, routing, general procedures and shop flow.
  • Engaged leader of recruiting, development and performance management of all direct reports
  • Develop training plans and ensure all Operators are effectively trained in the operation, troubleshooting and repair of equipment.  
  • Provide technical guidance and overall decision making operationally.
  • Own process to write business proposals for equipment funding.
  • Oversee and ensure maintenance/vendor relations for equipment service and sub-contracting.
  • Partner with Engineering as a leader in new product development.

Education:  

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science related field, preferably Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • MBA or MS degree is preferred. 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or science related field, preferably Manufacturing / Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years in progressive operations management experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications with strong MS Excel skills.
  • Experience in the management of technical staff in addition to front line personnel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, as well as strong organizational leadership.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to motivate others, resolve conflict, encourage teamwork, and manage employee performance.
  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and experience related to automation, vacuum equipment, data acquisition.
  • Strong background in technical operations; specifically enhancing properties of material through technical processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, and a structured Quality Management System.
  • Experience working in Extruded Plastics and/or Injection Molding highly preferred.
