Job Summary:

Exciting Product Engineering Design summer internship working with a top consumer goods company in the kitchen and bath industry.  The purpose of the internship is to provide meaningful, professional hands-on experience to students with proven academic performance and leadership potential.  This internship offers the opportunity for meaningful contribution to the product department’s business objectives while experiencing personal professional development. 

This internship will be based out of Ann Arbor, MI, Corporate Headquarters and will go from May 20, 2019 to August 9, 2019.   The candidate will assist the product department on a variety of tasks including a major project designing an interactive kitchen experience.

Principal Functional Responsibilities:

  • Create and design a solution for an innovative cabinetry experience
  • Work with core cross functional team to develop product designs
  • Learn and utilize product forecasting skills to justify launching product in market
  • Participate as a core team member in all assigned projects
  • Identify new designs and lead creation of prototypes
  • Participate in developing product and market research opportunities (i.e. scheduling and prospecting, prototype feedback)

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Currently pursuing Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, interior design, architecture, or related field.
  • Major GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively express thoughts/ideas through written and verbal communication
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Proficient and comfortable working with wood working equipment
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Proficient on basic computer programs: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in 3D modeling program
  • Ability to communicate designs through hand sketching and computer modeling
  • Portfolio demonstrating design experience and perspective

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Leadership experience
  • Previous related work experience
