Delta Faucet Company has an exciting opportunity for a Packaging Engineer to join our Indianapolis Engineering Team! The Packaging Engineer designs, develops and implements complete new product packaging solutions from concept to market introduction.


Principal Accountabilities:

Principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and manage design, development and production of packaging components and graphics with vendors
  • Serve as the technical lead for packaging on specific projects and taking responsibility for all aspects of packaging design control on these projects
  • Work cross-functionally to develop innovative concepts and solutions for product packaging structure and graphics
  • Analyze packaging problems, identify root causes, and develop solution options for product packaging-related problems
  • Apply company standards to ensure graphics, copy and compliance / regulatory related information is properly applied and designed into packaging components
  • Verify and validate effectiveness of packaging designs by conducting packaging transit and environmental tests per ISTA standards.
  • Author and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) as needed and effectively communicate implications of packaging changes and requirements to all affected functional areas
  • Contribute to Delta’s engineering body of knowledge by developing and documenting work instructions and standard operating procedures for packaging related components and processes.
  • Identify, develop and implement packaging quality improvements, cost reductions, and customizations to meet customer and market needs
  • Oversee and assist in the creation of packaging drawings, samples and written analysis of proposed packaging designs for approval
  • Develop pallet stacking patterns, product packaging layouts and instructions for assembly
  • Create, manage and maintain packaging attribute data within Delta’s ERP/PLM system
  • Ensure packaging designs comply with company operations and ergonomic requirements

Education and Experience/Skills:

The ideal candidate will possess a BS in Packaging Engineering or related degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 3+ years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience should include design with corrugated, folding cartons, plastic thermoforms, pulp trays and fabricated and molded cushioning foams. Candidates must also possess a thorough knowledge of packaging development, production and printing processes, packaging material selections, engineering documentation best practices and packaging ISTA standards and testing. Experience with design for manufacturability, ergonomics and PPAP steps for verification and validation of first production packaging from suppliers is required. A high level of computer literacy is required and knowledge of CAD design techniques strongly preferred. Proficiency in pallet programs such as TOPPS or CAPE and product life-cycle management applications is preferred.

Candidates should possess analytical ability and have the ability to make decisions in uncertain environments and synthesize solution options for management. It is essential that candidates have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and exhibit sound judgment and ethics. Applicants must have the ability to work on multiple projects and be able to work both independently and as part of a fast-paced team.
