Network Engineer

The Network Engineer is responsible for managing network infrastructure, Shoretel VoIP, as well as network monitoring to ensure optimal internal and external network availability and performance.


  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on network appliance management experience
  • Proficiency in TCP/IP structure, routing protocols, BGP/EIGRP, QOS/COS, SIP, VoIP, IOS, NxOS, IPSec, VPN, SSH, SNMP, ARP, DNS, DHCP and other network protocols
  • Experience maintaining remote networks, administration of multipath WAN via MPLS and IPSec tunnels
  • 3+ years experience with Cisco IOS and NXOS configurations.
  • CCNA/CCDA certification preferred
  • Basic knowledge of VMWare administration a PLUS, but not required
  • Basic knowledge of LINUX not required a PLUS, but not required


  • Responsible for the availability, performance, and security of corporate network, VoIP and communications infrastructure
  • Provide optimization support including but not limited to software, performance engineering and optimization of Shortel/Mitel family of communication products
  • Assure high availability of Network Devices by consistent maintenance and control of key systems and servers within the Kichler network
  • Support call center and office operations with administration of ShoreTel Director and ShoreTel Contact Center
  • Develop contingency plans, mitigate risk through configuration backups and staging of recovery resources
  • Triage, investigate and troubleshoot issues by determining root cause and remediate issues and take proactive measures to prevent future occurrences
  • Secure networks by developing access controls, monitoring, and notification processes
  • Perform 24x7 emergency troubleshooting and repair of systems impacting or risking impact to critical company operations
  • Maintain and improve voice quality standards through identification of and resolution of discovered issues; evaluating or assessing unified communication components or devices to identify and analyze critical performance indicators and operation gaps that can pose significant risk; performing communications system’s health assessments to include technology and/or routing protocols
  • Manage wireless network controllers, evaluate and adjust service for reliability and performance
  • Develop and utilize internal monitoring and notification systems via SNMP, Syslog, and Netflow
  • As Tier-2 support, facilitate end-user device connectivity and access via wired, wireless, and AnyConnect VPN
  • Support network needs of warehousing and logistics operations, including product development team
  • Assist in information gathering and architecting solutions to fulfill various functional and performance requirements, including but not limited to: storage, networking, VoIP, and other pieces of infrastructure and systems
  • Identify and pursue best-fit topologies and configurations based on system, operation, and user needs
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks: motivated to improve system design, performance, and overall user experience
  • Ability to evaluate software package and plan for deployment
  • Assist in integrating technical requirements and design goals into the overall enterprise network design
  • Adhere to change management procedures, including review, coordination, scheduling, communication, implementation and follow-up procedures as they relate to company and industry standard best practices
  • Coordinate issue escalation and resolution through service providers
  • Collaborate with other network engineers in all matters pertaining to the network data and voice reliability, uptime of network systems, and security
  • Document topology, systems designs, configuration, and troubleshooting guidance by writing and visualizing relevant information and creating environmental handbooks
  • Is available for occasional and brief travel to remote offices
  • Participate in development of, and operate within technical budget
  • Other duties as assigned

  • College degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
