We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the ongoing support of existing products and the creation of custom item designs.We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the ongoing support of existing products and the creation of custom item designs. This role is responsible for creating and modifying designs that are functional, structurally sound and designed for manufacturability. This role will work with operations and engineering to assess and perform design modifications to improve Design for Manufacturability and reduce cost. This role will work with quality and other engineers to create inspection criteria and manufacturing procedures. This role will work with purchasing and quality personnel to address vendor related quality issues, and assess vendors for competence and capabilities. This role is also responsible for documenting designs in 3D CAD (Solidworks), creating CAM files (MasterCAM) for our routing machines, fabricating prototype parts, and creating BOMs in our PDM system. It is the responsibility of this role to use effective communication in order to develop and maintain productive cross-functional relationships. This role will be required to go back and forth between two site - located a mile apart.


In addition, your key responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with Operations to identify root cause and resolve ongoing production issues
  • Independently research solutions, troubleshoot and resolve complex problems by analyzing issues
  • Select raw materials and components, develop product specifications, complete first article inspections
  • Build prototypes components
  • Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, and designs. Ensure commitments are agreed, reviewed and met
  • Develop manufacturing procedures, engineering systems, product designs and supplier performance in order to improve operational effectiveness and flexibility
  • Provide project management, technical support, and supervision as required
  • Develop and maintain documentation for consistency, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
  • Ongoing evaluation of processes and materials for cost and ease of manufacturability.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong project management and problem solving skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team to support a fast paced manufacturing environment.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
