Masco Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of brand- name products for the home improvement and new home construction markets. Comprised of more than 20 companies, the Masco family operates nearly 60 manufacturing facilities in the United States and over 20 in other parts of the world. Masco Research and Development is seeking a materials scientist with a background in polymer chemistry to provide support to Masco operating divisions. As a Materials Scientist at Masco Research and Development, you will have the opportunity to help support multi-discipline teams to develop and optimize innovative products for the home improvement and new home construction markets.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Work as part of a team of scientists and engineers at Masco Research and Development to provide technical support and consulting services to Masco operating companies.
  • Work frequently with laboratory testing equipment, focusing on various testing strategies related to polymeric materials and surface finishes.
  • Work with operating companies to help optimize existing product lines through manufacturing process improvements and material selection.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses studies to solve manufacturing and field problems related to polymers.
  • Organize and write technical reports.
  • Help to maintain clean and safe laboratory working environment. Good laboratory housekeeping and recordkeeping is expected.
  • Help to sustain the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.


Experience & Qualifications:


  • Bachelors of Science in materials science, chemistry, polymer science, or related fields
  • Experience with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is desirable.
  • Experience with thermal analyzers such as TGA, DSC DMA is desirable.
  • Experience with mechanical testing equipment such as tensile machines, impact testers, melting flow index is desirable.
  • Knowledge of environmental testing such as weathering resistance, chemical resistance, surface finishing analysis is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in government regulations, EPA testing methods is desirable.
  • Experience in new product development is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to interpret and present scientific test results.
