POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly technical, enthusiastic, innovative, and experienced individual, who is looking for a challenging and rewarding career with a reputable and established manufacturer of plumbing products.


Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Field Application Engineer will be responsible for codes & standards and management of product specifications for the plumbing engineering, architectural, builder and commercial food service design and equipment manufacturer communities. Codes & Standards responsibilities include managing certifications, driving strategy for the various product categories and overseeing the regulatory landscape. Management of Product specifications will include understanding customer requirements, developing required specifications and assisting the sales team with the bidding process. Strong interaction with Customers, Sales, Reps, Engineering and Product Management is required.



PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical leadership to sales and extended sales teams by mapping customer product requirements to optimal technical solutions
  • Support bidding activity by analyzing customer RFQ specifications and developing technical proposals
  • Ability to present the corporate brand, product messaging and solutions to customers
  • Issue product documentation (i.e. technical drawings, specifications, data sheets, catalogs, compliance matrixes)
  • Coordinate sample ordering, delivery, and follow-up with customer for product approval
  • Focus on relationship development/communications by visiting customers regularly, either independently or with sales team, for interactive customer engineering discussions
  • Keep current of evolving market and competitor technologies through literature, patents, trade shows, technical forums, participation in professional societies/codes & standards bodies and close communications with the customer base. Report summary and recommendations on a timely and regular basis
  • Aware of all Federal, state & local codes, industry standards and internal standards and assure resulting product solutions will comply
  • Support identification of new applications/innovation opportunities and funnel it through the ideation process by coordinating with the appropriate sales, product management and engineering staff
  • Primary owner of product certification activities and relationship with certifying agencies
  • Manage (with product engineers) the certification process related to various initiatives within the organization
  • RFQ’s for certification projects and review/approval of received quotes. Submission of certification package to the agencies and conduct follow ups on status
  • Communicate on receipt of certification and confirm listing updates at agencies
  • Manage the quoting, invoicing and payments for the certification agencies
  • Negotiate projects costs with agencies and manage certification budget. Target annual cost reductions with agencies through consolidation, audit management and product obsolescence
  • Develop capability to drive modifications of existing standards and introduction of new product standards
  • Attend various codes & standards working committee meetings and monitors trends/developments impacting the business
  • Actively engage code agencies at both local and national level in review and update of building codes and regulatory compliance
  • Able to travel up to 40%
  • Performs other related duties as needed and assigned

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering and a minimum of 5+ years of applicable experience is required
    • Master’s degree is a plus
  • Familiarity with codes & standards and exposure to professional bodies is desired
  • Basic understanding of fluid transfer and controls required
  • Self-motivated with strong networking and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative, team oriented, strong ability to work well with others, and have a customer service mentality with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Must be detailed-oriented and able to multitask and manage workloads and determine priorities
  • Demonstrated understanding that customers determine our success
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships, while working collaboratively with cross-functional business teams
  • Demonstrated successful ability to organize and prioritize work to ensure timely deadlines
  • Ability to function at a high level of effectiveness, flexibility, independence and initiative without daily interaction with management
  • Proficient computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite
