Job Description

The Corporate Health and Safety Manager is a consultant and advisor to the plant locations, providing support and technical assistance in administration of and compliance with federal, state, local, and company EHS requirements. The Corporate Safety Manager recommends, develops, and implements programs that maintain safe and healthful working conditions and promotes protection against accidents, illnesses, and injuries through communication and implementation of EHS procedures. The Corporate Safety Manager maintains compliance of environmental, safety, and governmental regulations by identifying and analyzing problems, finalizing suggestions and recommendations for improvements. Performing audits to ensure locations are compliant and oversees worker’s compensation, occupational safety and related programs to the conformance of company philosophies and business objectives.


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops environmental health and safety programs that can be implemented at the location level to ensure Milgard is compliant with Local, State and Federal regulations.
  • Participate in the selection and onboarding of location EH&S Managers/Specialists to ensure implementation of programs throughout all locations.
  • Provide the necessary support for each location EH&S Manager/Specialist to succeed, including assisting in their professional development.
  • Create, maintain and update the EHS resources and materials to support all locations.
  • Develop and sustain a program of accountability for all levels of the organization.
  • Establish, review and make appropriate adjustments to the operational policies and procedures for locations to enhance environmental health and safety.
  • Conduct environmental health and safety inspection audits at all locations.
  • Establish health and safety training programs for all levels of operation and labor staff – New Hire Orientation, Forklift, First Aid/CPR, AED and BBP, Fall Protection, LOTO, Emergency Planning, etc..
  • Facilitate conference, Kaizen and lean manufacturing events and training for location EH&S Managers/Specialists.
  • Oversee management of claims for workers compensation and return to work programs. Ensures positive actions and outcomes in case management.
  • Lead investigations for incidents, accidents and near misses then ensure solutions are communicated.
  • Compiles and submits reports required by company management, regulatory agencies and insurance companies.
  • Engage in all aspects of corporate risk management including analysis and implementation of financial risk and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and manage risk management operational budgets and monitor their performance to determine variances between budgets, standard costs and actual costs incurred.
  • Develops data driven problem solving models to identify key improvement actions. Has a bias for action based on insight.
  • Assist in preparation of required materials and evidence for hearings, law suits and insurance investigations.
  • Prepare monthly reports for executive staff and board outlining entire environmental health and safety program statistics and improvement methodologies. Report to MASCO all pertinent Milgard related Environmental Health and Safety concerns.
  • Implement a Recognition and Awards Program.
  • Maintain liaison with local, state and federal agencies.
  • Establishes contact with and evaluates the capabilities of outside EHS service providers.
  • Investigates and establishes standards for protective equipment.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION:

  • Indirectly manages EHS Managers/Specialists at all locations.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and Local Regulations and Industry Requirements
  • Knowledge of claims management process for Workers Compensation
  • Plant Safety Policies and Procedures
  • General Manufacturing Process Knowledge
  • General Construction and Job Site Safety Practices

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING:

  • Bachelors Degree; or seven years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and all company, federal and state safety and environmental rules and laws.
  • Certified Safety Professional Certification preferred.
