Masco Corporation's Legal Department has an opening for a Corporate Counsel who will be a business partner to one or more of Masco’s business units and who has experience across a broad range of commercial legal topics. The position will require a strategic approach to complex legal issues working with a cross-functional team in a high-paced environment. The position will report to Masco’s Assistant General Counsel – Director of Commercial Legal Affairs. The Masco Legal Department strives to be a trusted business partner with corporate management and the individual business units, providing proactive advice to support strategic initiatives and to compete more effectively while performing compliance and corporate governance responsibilities in a timely, cost-effective manner. Position Summary:

  • Act as the main legal business partner to one or more Masco business units
  • Draft and counsel on general commercial and contract matters, including terms and conditions of purchase and of sale; supply contracts; requests for quotes; purchase orders; quotations; vendor buying agreements; builder agreements; IT agreements; and other commercial contracts
  • Provide advice and counsel on matters relating to:
    • Warranties, advertising and consumer product claims
    • Social media and e-business
    • Legal requirements for the manufacture and sale of consumer products
    • Regulatory matters and applicable legislative developments
  • Prepare and present legal compliance/education/training programs
  • Manage third party disputes and negotiate their resolution
  • Coordinate with other cross-functional legal and business experts to identify, evaluate and address complex legal matters
  • Work with business unit executives to create, maintain and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures

Essential Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate, including license to practice in at least one state
  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience at an in-house law department and/or outside law firm
  • Practical, business-oriented approach to problem solving, complemented by an appreciation of legal complexity and risk
  • Work with the highest level of ethics and integrity

  • Ability to multi-task and manage a significant workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills, and experience interacting with senior management
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to travel 10-20% of the time to domestic subsidiaries

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • At least six years of experience as a corporate in-house counsel with a consumer products company
  • Experience in the areas of real estate, personal property and related transactional matters
  • Experience with supervision of legal department personnel and outside counsel and budgets
