Job Description

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing the interaction between people and machinery/equipment
  • Assessing the design of products/systems via practical experiments and making them easier to use
  • Identifying problems by observing and interviewing individuals
  • Performing risk assessments within the various workplace areas
  • Assessing the effect of work environments on employees
  • Collecting, analyzing and interpreting data/statistics
  • Identifying possible improvements and designing/implementing appropriate solutions
  • Compiling and presenting information verbally and in written form
  • Assisting with investigating workplace accidents, including off shift participation
  • Offering information, advice, training and recommendations to employees to reduce ergonomic risk
  • Use CI and structured problem solving (SPS) skills to develop strategies and programs that improve ergonomics throughout the plant.
  • Participate in CI events, such as Kaizen or ergo-related events

Key skills

Candidates need to possess good numerical, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills. The ability to grasp technical concepts, a systematic approach to work, high mechanical aptitude, and an interest in human behavior can be helpful. Ability to use creativity over capital expenditures during implementations.

Education and Experience/Skills

  • BS degree in a technical discipline is preferred (i.e., engineering, biology, physiotherapy, sports science, medicine, physiology, occupational therapy, physics). Through experience and/or education, the candidate will have demonstrated knowledge in these areas.
  • Ergonomic experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Must have high level of technical knowledge regarding CI methodologies and have demonstrated problem-solving, planning, and project management skills from previous work experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and possess strong leadership.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills to be able to effectively communicate with and build strong working relationships with individuals and within teams at all levels of the organization.
  • Should be able to think and act independently with little direct guidance.
  • Proven abilities in observation, attention to detail, taking a methodical approach, and the ability to provide detailed documentation.
  • Proficient in MS software (Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Experience with DF Ergo, eTools, or other ergonomic-related software programs a plus.
