The Chip System Operator assumes the responsibilities to assist machine operators with handling hazardous liquids and solid hazardous waste, and needs and understanding of OSHA handling standards. Knowledge of various machining equipment is necessary to effectively maintain the equipment and ensure uninterrupted production schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties assigned by Department Supervisor.
  • Maintain Chip System (chips and bar ends, chip load on trailers).
  • Operate xybex 1000 Master Chemical unit (daily clean centrifuge and inspect centrifuge oil for contamination).
  • Utilize refractometer to document coolant concentration in the centrifuge and machine tools daily to prepare centrifuge coolant, clean tank coolant).
  • Retrieve and deliver machined parts to parts washer as necessary.
  • Assist operator with sump sucker and document dates of machine tool pump outs.
  • Assist operator pump out oil drip pans on all trunnion machines.
  • Maintain, based on OSHA standards, liquid and solid hazardous waste in machine shop (prepare liquid for shipment and document dates and quantity of shipments).
  • Assist operator regularly in removal and replacement of hydraulic oil in Buffoli machine tools.

  • Experience utilizing a Chip System.
  • Experience handling hazardous liquids and solid hazardous waste.
  • Understand the operation of various machining equipment.
  • Understand the SDS requirements, per OSHA, of required machine shop hazardous chemicals.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 10 – 20 lbs. frequently
  • Must be able to lift 20 – 40 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to easily grasp products and other materials.
  • Must be able to easily grasp packages, products, and other materials.

Work Environment:

  • Climate-controlled, noisy environment.
  • Authorized access areas.
