Job Description

The Business Solutions Manager (BSM) is responsible and will manage the relationship between Customer Solutions, Operations / Supply Chain and Information Services (IS). The BSM will manage the strategy, planning, design, organization, implementation and operation of the Commercial and Operations systems and data services, as well as provide thought leadership in reporting and business processes. The incumbent will collaborate with business stakeholders to manage program priorities and coordinate project delivery and support to meet business requirements. This position reports to the Director of Business Solutions and leads a team of 5-7.


Principal Accountabilities :

  • Organization leadership and development
    • Provide leadership to the Commercial & Operational IS team, by driving collaborative teamwork, setting clearly defined responsibilities and expectations, and providing effective performance evaluation and feedback, along with opportunities for career and knowledge development.
    • Lead and direct the activities of the Commercial & Operational Systems Team.
    • Communicate clearly and listen effectively, ensuring that senior leadership/ organizational messages are delivered to team members in a timely manner, that issues and concerns are dealt with, and foster open communication within the team.
    • Help team achieve success through clarifying expectations, coaching, providing feedback via performance reviews and recognizing accomplishments, and providing ongoing coaching opportunities when appropriate.
    • Assist in work planning and organization and foster teamwork, accountability, and prioritization within the team.
  • Business Partner Engagement and Alignment
    • Participate in, support and align with the direction and strategies of the IS department and the company as a whole.
    • Participate in the development of the IS strategy in all areas, but specifically as it relates to commercial & operational systems.
    • Maintain a current knowledge level of technical innovations, trends and developments in the commercial & operational system domain and share that knowledge as applicable in developing strategy and monitoring/managing roadmaps and plans.
    • Work directly with the business community to coordinate plans, architecture and life-cycle of the specific products, applications and projects related to the business function.
    • Drive innovative technology solutions and the development of new capabilities within commercial & operational systems, pursuant to the needs of the company and its business areas.
  • Solution Design
    • Collaborate with business partners in identifying opportunities for, and implementation of, automated systems for complex business processes
    • Lead and/or participate in the development of overall business solutions designs including reengineering business processes, organization and application architecture.
    • Create and maintain application architectural vision, roadmap, guidelines, and standards.
    • Work closely with business partners to identify problems and requirements, and provide business solutions to support complex business processes
    • Research and analyze basic and complex issues surrounding the processes and systems of an organization.
    • Make solution recommendations for improving business processes and practices.
  • Solution Delivery
    • Manage the delivery of the set of projects aligned to the strategic roadmap for a particular business area, providing expertise in managing projects to successful completion
    • Deliver against business case and specifications, vendor management, change management.
  • Solution Development & Support
    • Oversee development and/or interfaces including the installing, implementing, enhancing, and testing business application software
    • Ensure quality of support resources and processes are in place to maintain operational efficiency of the business systems and processes.
    • Direct new development efforts in context of business solution projects or support.
    • As needed, provide problem diagnosis and technical consulting on complex production issues.
    • Provide mentorship and leadership in resolving complex technical problems.

Education and Experience/Skills:

The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field, and eight years of experience in designing, delivering, and developing business solutions with process and organization change. Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering a portfolio of cross-functional business projects, with close leadership partnership. The incumbent will be a demonstrated leader in strategy development, creative and critical thinking, business case development and achievement, and taking calculated risks.


The ideal candidate will possess ability to lead, influence, and motivate staff and project teams through change; to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences at various levels within the organization; to lead business process improvements by possessing skills such as Continuous Improvement, LEAN.


In addition, the following experiences are beneficial:

  • 10-15 years of experience working in multi-faceted information services department with exposure to a variety of disciplines within the department.
  • 8+ years of experience in a leadership role, acting in both a department manager and project manager capacity.
  • 5+ years of experience in system management role
