Position Purpose:

This role is  responsible for designing and developing equipment, fixtures, and processes to support the manufacturing implementation of new products as well as support for parts already in production. These will include but are not limited to:

  • Design and fabrication of semi-manual and automated assembly equipment
  • Develop electrical and PLC-based systems for equipment being designed by fellow project engineers
  • Implement plant automation and robotics into current and future workcells
  • Create wiring diagrams for new and existing equipment
  • Design and develop automated test apparatus for new products

    Essential Functions:

  • This individual must manage the equipment design and fabrication process (concept, design, drawing creation, build, document), installation, MPAP, and long-term technical support of the manufacturing and testing equipment. This will include meeting quality, capability, cost and time targets.
  • This individual must be able to develop and implement capital or expense projects. This will include:
    • Researching new and established manufacturing technologies
    • Planning the capital and time needed to implement the technology
    • Writing capital request proposals to be reviewed. Upon project approval, this engineer will be responsible for:
    • Designing, fabricating and qualifying the necessary equipment
    • Installing it in the manufacturing plant
    • Working with operators on training and ergonomic issues
    • Meeting cost and time targets.
  • This individual must also participate in product and process design reviews. The position is responsible for helping to improve the quality of the product while lowering the cost to produce it.
  • This individual must provide technical assistance to the manufacturing and maintenance functions to solve chronic or complex problems.
  • Develop and implement automation equipment to achieve various project objectives while meeting cost and time targets.
  • Support standardization initiatives by specifying and purchasing similar controls equipment, components and participate in standards development.
  • Provide technical support to all departments of Mercury Plastics, as well as customers and vendors.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment, most specifically hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics and PLC control systems.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required
  • 2+ years of engineering experience preferred.
  • Formal training in PLC programming and robotics and/or other automated systems is desirable
  • Candidate must demonstrate an ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.
