"Every day we aim to get better at integrating diversity and inclusion into who we are and how we work. This is critical for us to ensure we keep innovating, enhancing our culture, positively impacting our communities and ultimately winning with our consumers. I believe this is a key differentiator to enable the continued growth of our businesses going forward.”
– Keith Allman, President & CEO
Our approach starts at the top—with our Board, our CEO and each leader at our business units. This comes to life during off-site meetings, town halls and lunch-and-learns, where senior executives facilitate small group discussions to raise awareness about inclusion and seek understanding from our people about how we’re doing. We’ve linked our businesses’ annual performance rewards to our diversity and inclusion efforts, and our leaders consistently monitor our progress against our action plans during key business reviews.
We know the way for us to make progress isn’t to have a one-time conversation or training session. That’s why we strive to keep the conversation alive by integrating inclusion into our ways of working. This sometimes means having challenging conversations that take us outside our comfort zone. We also have focused sessions designed to raise awareness of our own unconscious biases and provide tools and tips to help our employees manage them. Together we’re learning to listen more and appreciate each other’s differences and commonalities.

Our BEHR® paint commercial, released in early 2017, is a great example of how we strive to represent the modern-day family and understand our consumers’ personal connection to our business. The ad prompted not only an uptick in sales but also several comments from consumers who reached out to Masco Coatings to share their positive feedback. One particular consumer shared that this was the first time she saw a commercial that ‘looked like her family’, and joked that maybe a commercial shouldn’t matter this much, but it did.

Masco HQ and its Masco Cabinetry business unit are proud supporters of the online volunteer tutoring program, TutorMate. Through this program, participating employees spend 30 minutes each week remotely tutoring first graders to improve their reading abilities so they can confidently advance to the next stages of their education.Click here to learn more about TutorMate.
After relocating its corporate headquarters in 2017, Masco hosted a D&I Open House at its new building with our leaders and those in neighboring businesses in order to network, share experiences and best practices, and identify potential collaboration opportunities with those who have a similar interest in advancing diversity and inclusion in the community.
