Senior Engineering Manager - New Product Introduction (NPI)

As the Senior Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing various engineering projects, processes, budgets, and timelines and making any necessary adjustments in order to ensure successful completion.  In this position you will play a key role in the overall success of our organization by planning, managing, and monitoring engineering functions.

As a member of the Product & Engineering Team, you will report directly to the Director of Engineering and will interface with other members of the Product & Engineering Team to continuously improve overall New Product Introduction (NPI) and engineering capabilities throughout the organization.  

The ideal candidate is a leader with proven skills to direct both complexity and ambiguity while leading a Team that influences all aspects of the business.  The successful candidate must have broad business knowledge, allowing effective cross-functional communication to direct and provide solutions and guide engineering related decisions.  The Senior Engineering Manager will act as an internal advisor and business partner on a wide variety of business processes and engineering opportunities for the Company.  The successful candidate will be responsible for partnering with key leaders across the organization, to ensure that resources are aligned to drive business successful business results.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as engineering leader and technical expert.
  • Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers through Kichler Lighting’s NPI process.
  • Coach and mentor the Engineering Team through risk mitigation and product development processes.
  • Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for engineers to use and abide by.
  • Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.
  • Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff.
  • Conduct various tests and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of completed projects.
  • Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs.
  • Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other Managers, Suppliers, and Contractors.
  • Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally.
  • Develop, train, and mentor team members to facilitate their career growth as well as drive excellence in their execution of business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited College or University
  • Minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience
  • Minimum five years in a management role with direct reports
  • Proven analytical and mathematical skillset, capable of evaluating and solving complex problems
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and develop a team
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment, often with competing priorities
  • Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Management or Business Administration
  • Lighting and/or electromechanical assembly experience
